Material Requirements Planning (MRP)

Material Requirements Planning (MRP)

The first MRP systems of inventory management evolved in the 1940s and 1950s. They used mainframe computers to explode information from a bill of materials for a certain finished product into a production and purchasing plan for components. Before long, MRP was expanded to include information feedback loops so that production personnel could change and update the inputs into the system as needed. The next generation of MRP, known as manufacturing resources planning or MRP II, also incorporated marketing, finance, accounting, engineering, and human resources aspects into the planning process. A related concept that expands on MRP is enterprise resources planning (ERP), which uses computer technology to link the various functional areas across an entire business enterprise.

MRP works backward from a production plan for finished goods to develop requirements for components and raw materials.MRP begins with a schedule for finished goods that is converted into a schedule of requirements for the subassemblies, component parts, and raw materials needed to produce the finished items in the specified time frame, Thus, MRP is designed to answer three questions: what is needed? how much is needed? and when is it needed?

MRP breaks down inventory requirements into planning periods so that production can be completed in a timely manner while inventory level and related carrying costs are kept to a minimum. Implemented and used properly, it can help production managers plan for capacity needs and allocate production time.

Build exclusivity and status into your mobile marketing. Mobile devices themselves have become aspirational. Phones, tablets and even some mobile apps have become symbols of status. Follow suit with your mobile marketing by offering exclusive content to your mobile readers or downloads only available to those who have subscribed for mobile messaging.

Compared to general Internet marketing, mobile marketing must be short and specific. For example, when targeting users on desktops, it is fine to use a banner ad that points to the main page of your web based store. Your intentions may be good, but if no one signs up, they will all be for naught. Place your call to action on any existing marketing materials you use, your social networking sites, direct mail, email, and have employees in the store tell every single customer.

Check out your website and other associated pages from your mobile. Does it look good? This change came on the internet fairly quickly so many websites are not optimized to be viewed from mobile devices. If you do not have a mobile version of your website, you should look into making one soon.

Your mobile ads must be short and sweet or the customer will delete! Customers do not want or have the time to scroll through lengthy messages. Keep your ads as brief and concise as possible to increase the chances of it being read and of customers purchasing your product!

Make sure your mobile marketing campaign works across all mobile platforms. To run a successful campaign, you don’t want to leave a large part of your audience without the availablity to see your ads. You also don’t want to discourage them by running an ad that they can see, but doesn’t function properly on their device. Make sure your campaign is available on all platforms, and test it for functionality before you email it.

Failure to make your mobile marketing cross-platform capable, will cost you dearly. The variety of mobile devices available is staggering, and there are multiple platforms to be compatible with. Your ad campaign should target iPhones, Android devices, Blackberry, Windows mobile and tablet devices.
